Do you mean focus times or the speed of the lens in terms of fstop? For focusing it's v quick and probably on a par with the kit lens. It's not as quick as my fixed 50mm f1.8 but it is v acceptable.

As a walk around lens, for the cost, the sigma 17-70mm can't be beaten.

As for fstop the sigma lens does beat the kit lens in terms of speed ( f/2.8-4.5 vs f/3.5-5.6).
