Have you ever considered going pro?
I don't know if it's just the "new year - new start" mentality. Or if I'll actually go through with it, but I'm really starting to wonder if I could make a living from taking pictures.
I'm still learning technique and saving for the glass I REALLY want, but I don't think either of those things will ever change, no matter where my photography goes.
I've got the excellent book, The Freelance Photographers Market Handbook but the trouble I'm having is that there's just not enough days in the week to research, target and market my photography, and go to work full time. I've got a couple of weddings booked later this year, but that on it's own is not a career I really fancy (far too much stress LOL). I've also thought about family portraits etc, but really need a decent portfolio before you can go full time. Much the same with the stock photography libraries.
Has anyone else thought about, or even better actually taken the step of going pro. It's the transition period of building portfolio / reputation I'm most concerned about. It would be much easier if I didn't have mortgage, wife and kids to worry about.
Any pearls of wisdom, experience or ideas would be very welcome.
Thanks
John
