I can't comment on the Canon, but from seeing Mono prints on the Epson R2400 they are outstanding

Upon visiting a dedicated Monochrome Photography club once, I aslo found mosts memebrs had chosen the R2400 for Mono printing. I can't comment on the colour capabilities though.
