it's probably best to mention budget,. the fuji S9600 is around 250,. so I presume that is what you want to spend - or is there more in the kitty?

regards bridge camera Vs dSLR,. think of it this way,. if you get a dSLR today it probably won't have the same amount of zoom range but you are buying into something that will save you money in the long run (perhaps!),. the lens can be reused for a future dSLR and any further lenses you get will work on the body,. the bridge camera is generally not extendable in the same way,.

in terms of low light shooting you could get a nikon d50 + 50mm 1.8 lens for less than 400 quid - or much less if you don't mind 2nd hand and no bridge camera would come close for low-light
