Noise Reduction for other things

Has anyone ever found that their noise reduction software produces quite a neat look to their images, negating the actual noise reduction?
I find that for some of my flowers, but lots of my portraits, it can make the skin look smooth, almost airbrushed, producing an effect I quite like, and which I sometimes use with or without noise, and it saves me some time in PS messing about....
Just a thought

(PS: Am using NeatImage, cannot stand NoiseNinja)
