If you want more functionality with very little effort take a look at some of the free gallery software packages that are available in our download section. There are some great ones in there that are very easy to set up, will make thumbnails automatically and some even offer many other features such as slideshows, exif information, email to friend etc.

If you instal one of those you could then make galleries for different events at the school and keep everything simple for the future while reducing your workload at the same time

Thanks for moving it. And, at the risk of sounding a little ponsey, I am totally aware of the other gallery softwares, I have a very sizeable chunk of them downloaded, and my gallery site, (in sig), is indeed made from one of them, however, I did it this way party for time saving, and partly for the satisfaction of making my own site and having absolute and complete control over it; well, mainly that.
Anyway, I said I might get around to resizing the pics shown on the site, but currently don't have a huge amount of time to do so.
