You're right of course, but lazy people like me don't carry a tripod everywhere. :wink: I have three IS lenses - 28-135, 75-300 and 300L, and I find that the IS helps to overcome camera shake even when photographing moving subjects, and it's especially good when panning hand-held.

Example taken with the 75-300 lens...
