Nice simple subject and one with which I always have problems! With being able to alter whatever you want, what do you? Usually do the same as you, Fiona, and leave all as I found it - otherwise might remove/alter that which attracted me in the first place!
Having said that, I'd have been tempted to remove the stalk and the piece of grass!
Clone out stalk and grass. Cropped to square, to suit feather in the middle, slight rotate to put leaf firmly in the corner. Increased saturation (red/yellow) to add some leaf interest. Sharpen feather.
