I think the composition is ok and so forth. I just don't feel I get an awful lot of attention holding from the picture. The lighting is a bit dark, particularly the boys face which is lost to the BG so I don't get much of a connection with him. Without that, the image loses its strength IMO.
Good idea and you saw something there to try and capture in the brief moment you had so fair does on that.
