Re: Pricing dilemma
Looks like the deal may be off. The guy seems to have some notion that he's going to get the images of his show for free for the press kit. He wants me to email him the files. HA. I'll probably be sending him a link to a gallery where he can purchase the digital file at different resolutions.
On top of that, he's looking for volunteer photographers to document the festival, and not to actually hire anyone as he initially impressed. Not a big deal, I'm shooting the event for my own portfolio anyways. If they want shots, I'll offer web resolution under the agreement that they only be used by the festival's website, and nowhere else.
On a plus note, I did find some crazy price ranges from photographers in the area. Ranging from 5 to 500 bucks for the actual digital file of the image. Of course, the 5 dollar was a personal license and in 1MP, and the 500 was a commercial license at 4MP.
The average I was finding was from 50 to 200 dollars for the type of use the guy was looking for, and about the same cost per hour to hire someone to shoot that kind of event. Sorta fits my initial urge to ask for 75-100.
It's been educational to say the least.
