You are going to have to balance the two opposing things about tripods here.

Sturdy enough to do the job and light enough to actually take out.

The sort of photoagraphy you will be doing should be the key. If you anticipate using a long lens in very exposed and windy environments, a lightweight tripod will not be stable enough. For other general use, most makers do adequate kit, and the ease of use will be the best way to decide. The leg locks need to be quick and easy to use. Personally, I like the lever type after having a tripod where you had to use a screw collar that took forever to lock and unlock.

Flavour of the month ball head is the Manfrotto RC322, but that is £90.
