I'm with Skip here. Much as I like mono, the colour ones have more detail. I know you like high contrast, but I think it is worth at least trying some shots that will reveal more detail in mono. This might mean a change in setting up and taking the shots or in your processing, but it is worth trying.

Your lighting problems could be solved by using a simple reflector (or reflectors). Anything will do as you can see the result before you take the shot.

The high contrast mono can be very effective, but not all subjects suit that type of process.
