I too tackle burnt highlights using cloning. Anyway, here's what I did with your pic, Paul: Simply adjusted the colour balance by moving the blue-yellow slider nearly all the way to yellow. That resulted in very bright saturation, so I lowered the saturation of the green channel by -15. That's it. It has altered the colour of the butterfly, but as I don't know what colour it actually is in real life, I can't correct the colour of it.
