Canon EOS-40D finally on verge of release?
Canon's long-rumored EOS-40D may finally be nearing a proper announcement. The camera is one of many listed as PictBridge-certified on the CIPA (Camera and Imaging Products Association) website, and more importantly, it is distinguished from the EOS-400D, also known as the Rebel XTi.
The 40D has been discussed in various forms since 2006; it would be an upgrade to the current EOS-30D (pictured), a professional-level DSLR with an 8.2-megapixel sensor. This is the likely reason for an upgrade, since even the XTi has 10.1 megapixels, and the rival D200 by Nikon has 10.2 megapixels.

Canon EOS-40D photos, features leaked
Details and photos have leaked today regarding the EOS-40D, the widely expected sequel to Canon's 30D entry pro DSLR camera. In spite of likely costing much less than the $3,999 flagship EOS-1D Mark III, the 40D will include a full three auto-exposure priority modes (aperture, depth-of-field, and shutter) as well as the 1D's quarter-resolution sRAW mode which captures uncompressed photos at a faster rate and without the larger file size. Earlier reports also claim the camera will have a similar 10-megapixel sensor with a dust removal system, a three-inch LCD with live previews, and a sustained shooting speed of at least five and potentially over six frames per second.
The release date for the camera is uncertain, but multiple sources point to a 40D unveiling the week of August 20th, potentially as early as Monday but no later than Thursday the 23rd. Actual shipping would take place in September or October, and the prices for body-only and kit versions are unknown.

Best Buy leak confirms Canon 40D for September
Canon expects to release its hotly anticipated EOS-40D digital SLR early next month, says an insider at Best Buy that leaked the camera's stocking info and UPC code. The camera is now due to reach shelves by September 2nd and is now known to have all the features previously revealed through early leaks as well as minor new additions: the 40D picks up the more recent DIGIC III imaging processor absent from the 30D and will also borrow several features from other cameras in the EOS line, ranging from the dust removal system, true spot metering, and a five frames per second burst rate.
Best Buy claims it will have the camera in stock on September 2nd at a price of $1,599, which is anticipated as the official retail price for most other stores. No confirmation has been given of the inclusion of a kit lens at the official price.
