The second shot is showing the effects of it being out of focus rather than it moving. If I had to place my money on one thing, that would be it. Are you absolutely sure it was focused correctly, maybe you had not locked focus and when you pressed the shutter release, the lens and camera hunted and couldn't get a good focus lock?
If thats the case though then depending on the camera mode and your custom settings it should have prevented the picture from being taken
Was it shot in manual or auto focus?
