Woody, I have the same lens and also have the same problem. I have decided to "put up with" the problem as this lens is so versatile and rarely leaves my camera. I have thought about a wide elastic band that I could roll down to where the barrel and lens housing meet , but have yet to find a suitable one.
Let me know if you hear of a solution.
