I have been using an 18% grey card in the light I'm shooting in, and assorted shades of red or blue with the custom WB to see the effect, really not a lot of change with the color.
When making a B&W I use a color photo, sometimes tweak the colors higher and convert to Mono, don't know if that's right, using the channel mixer.

Mark and Fi, thanks for your comments, IR's are flat and need some contrast if thats a look you want,,really need to hit the road and find something interesting to shoot.
