After viewing some IR shots taken by
Tony Parsons, & hearing how he took them with a Nikon Coolpix 950 with IR filter fitted, I was very impressed with the results. The shots on his web don't really do the shots fulljustice, as I saw the full size images being shown on a projector at about 8 foot across & they looked stunning

Although only 2.1mp it can produce images of 1600 pixel across no problems, so perfect if sharing shots on the web.
Although still needing to use a tripod, the advantage with this camera over DSLR's, is the live feed on the LCD on the back , that allows you to see the shot you are about to take. Due to the darkness of an IR filter, you cannot view the image through the normal viewfinder of a DSLR, meaning you have to compose the shot before putting the filter on .
Best thing is you can get these cameras now for around £70 / $140 (less if lucky)
