If there are no magnets as Steve suggested, and you've wiggled all the cables as Mark suggested, and you've tried thumping it as you suggested, then I'd have to suggest that it's probably goo.... er.... a turkey.
P.S. Doesn't matter if the speakers are on or off - it's the permanent magnets in them that cause the problem.
