Fiona , Here are a few suggestions what the fault may be.
Have you got anything near the monitor that is fed with 240volt mains. If so there could well be a mains transformer that radiates a magnetic field that would give a poor purity to your monitor but this would not give an overall yellow just patches.
By the way, I gather it is a CRT monitor?. LCD's would not be affected by stray magnetic fields.

A common fault in the monitor is the deguasing circuit becoming faulty and intermittent.

Is the White to yellow over the whole of the screen? and is it worse when you first switch on and improves with time? if so it could be a fault in the blue gun of the tube, the blue circuits in the monitor .It could also be any leads or processing in the Blue signal from the computer to the monitor.
