Other OS have been created there where a few allready mentioned in this thread, BUT the problem is that Bill Gates monopilized the computer industry.
Its like you said "It makes good business sense for MS to phase out XP" and ofcourse thats all it is, business.
I use XP wich is from microsoft but the fact the truth is told doesnt make anybody "slammers" theres persons like you that use vista and maybe the programs you use work perfectly due to the fact theres drivers and everything you need for them, but theres people that use other programs that dont work "YET" and I bet they wont be as happy as you.
I also have a Mac, well my son does and Apple really is the best Hardware and OS its the most stable And Secure The hardware runs cooler more efficent and last much longer, IMO, but we have gotten used to microsoft so much that thats what we end up buying. maybe we end up buying from microsoft because subconsciously we think some things wont work in a OS other then one from microsoft.
No matter what to me the most stable OS from microsoft was Windows 98 never ever had a problem with that one.
now about being "forced" you actually were, some programs only ran in windows they dont now but, again, you are too used to windows to change. part of the stategy I guess.
thats just my opinion...
