In order of priority from top to bottom
- A pair of D3 bodies c. £6000
- The 24-70mm f/2.8 c. £1200
- The 14-24mm f/2.8 c. £1200
- A TC-14E II 1.4x teleconverter c. £300
- The new 400mm f/2.8 VR c. £6000
- The 200-400mm f/4 VR c. £4000
- A D300 with MB-D10 grip c. £1300
So - just shy of £20K in total, with a probable initial spend of £14K or less. The camera bodies would be purchased here in the UK owing to warranty issues, but I'd hop over to NYC to pick up the lenses and TC, since
a) Nikkor lenses are covered by a worldwide warranty wherever you purchase them, and
b) the £ to $ exchange rate makes them far cheaper than over here.
Example: The 400mm f/2.8 costs £5500 here but retails for $7800 (£3850) at B&H... a difference of £1650 or about 30%. Assuming that I can get all the above listed lenses for 30% less than their UK retail values, I'd end up paying just £9,000 for £12,000 worth of lenses. The £3000 difference is nearly the cost of a single D3 body!
Edit: forgot to add that I'd be selling at least one of my D2X bodies, if not both of them, after I've picked up the D3's.
