Re: upgrading from kit lens/nikon D80

Hi, as mentioned by others, the 18-200 VR is an excellent walkaround lense. I find that the weight balances well with my D200 and the build quality seems robust (Nikon are currently offering a 2 year guarantee I believe)

The range of the zoom is just about right for most general situations and the lense can focus from 0.5m which I find useful.

The overall image quality of the lense is excellent, however it is a little soft at the extremes. Having said that, you already have the 10-20 to cover the wide angle end. I think that the softness is very slight (subjective I know )

All in all, for a one lense walkaround general solution, at the appx. budget you have, I would recommend it

I got mine from online from cameras2u - 438 +3.99 for next day delivery.

I posted previously regarding a problem with the focussing of my 18-200. This turned out to be a motor problem I think I was just unlucky and got a duff one! I have not read any other reports of this being a common problem with this lense.

Regards,

Alan
