I've moved you post here where I think it will get more replies.

FWIW, for me, spot metering is very desireable, but there are plenty of members here that have had/still own models with no spot metering. I guess they will be able to give the best advice rather than someone who has had spot metering since I bought my Olympus OM2 SP - and yes, the SP stands for spot meter, and it was the feature I was after at the time.

I do find it useful, but you can work around it. If the camera fulfils all of the other things you want, it is cheaper to learn how to work around it than to get a more expensive model. Maybe the 30D is the answer? I'm sure that has a spot meter and will be cheaper now due the the 40D release.
