legal advice req (again)

If a false claim is made about a company going into liquidation to get out of problems etc and is then found to be continuing under another name.
Is there any comeback etc .
Basically the builder i employed who couldnt build with lego has been given 14 days notice to recify the problems with the work he has carried out yet on the 14th day i recieved notification that the company has ceased trading and has gone into liquidation although they have so far refused to let me know the name of the appointed liquidator.
Trading standards are also involved and no record to date had been found of the said company going into liquidation,
I as do trading standards he is taking the perverbial
Thankfully i havent paid him any money ayt all so far although i supplied all the materials now its looking after the first estimate that it will mean i have to repurchase many items etc again.
Small claims court here i come however if he has gone into liquidation which i doubt for one minuite and has signed the house etc over to the cat whats my chances.
The company was not limited so in my eye as a sole trader even under another name they are still liable.
