Thanks for that Orangepeel. However what the Photomatix FAQ says is exactly what I did. One session convert and combine from CR2 in Photomatix then tone map and finally save as Tiff. Problem does not arise if I first convert to Tiff in DPP then combine the Tiffs. this however slows the whole thing down by adding another procedure.
