I dont think they are, I think it is the way news is broadcast. Today everything is instant, ie, internet, live TV, etc. Plus the media seem to sensationalize everything.
A few years ago Local news was kept local, today its spread across the world.
As for the music, every generation goes through that - their elders not liking it.
