It is not a lot different to CS2 - some might say in some areas it is easier. For instance, curves in CS3 has pre-sets that can be handy for if nothing else, a starting point.
If you keep looking you might well find CS2 at a good price, and if you do it is well worth getting. You can later upgrade it to CS3 if you want. The current upgrade is about £150 or less I think.
