I'm not a Canon guy, but I think for low light, indoor shots you would be better off getting something with a much wider aperture, f/2.8 or f/1.8 for example. Obviously if you go for something like the Canon 70-200 f/2.8, it is going to cost, but I'm not sure this lens will satisfy your requirements, especially at the long end.
