I think the left hand pulls attention away from the face, not helped by the diagonal of the arm leading you to the hand but not back to the face. Having said that, you can't really pose kids at that age so I doubt there was much you could do about it.
I tend to agree that moving slightly to your right might have improved the picture - for me the closeness of the head to the wood on the left of the picture cramps the subject a bit.
The eyes are totally lost, which is a real shame. A bit of eye contact would have totally changed the atmosphere but again it does have a kind of reflective, pensive air to it.
On the positive side I really like the flat lighting with just enough contrast to provide good modelling of the features.
