You'll lose Af with your camera and that lens combination with a 1.4X converter. 1 stop lost for a 1.4x and 2 stops for a 2x so at full zoom the 100-400L becomes a f5.6 which is the limit for AF on non pro bodies..add on the 1 stop for 1.4x and you'll probably have instant AF issues in anything other than excellent light, and even then there is no guarantee it will work. I guess it depends if you usually manual focus or not but I would say, either way a 2x is really not an option for that kit, sorry.

EDIT..all the above is irrespective or make or brand of teleconverter...its due to limits of the camera body and lens combination.
