There are good tripods to be had under £100, but they will be heavier than the CF ones. Slik, and Velbon are good contenders, but Bristol Cameras do the Velbon CF 535 for £115.

No, won't be carrying for long periods so weight isn't an issue.
By the way, after trying out a couple, got me a Nikkor 18-70, thanks for the advice
