To reduce glare you need a circular polarising filter. Bcause these are dark by their very nature you do losse a couple of stop of speed. But on the plus side they can also be used a neutral density filter as well.

The other thing they do well is to darken blue skies but this efect works best when the picture is taken at 90 degrees to th eposition of the sun.

If you do get one you will find it can be quit euseful
