thanks for the comments. Yes that foliage in the foreground of the first is an annoyance, the shot was taken at about F8 if I remember correctly and didn't show up nearly as much when looking at it in the viewfinder at F2.8. I don't find the DOF preview to be of much use in this type of use. Chalk it down to experience I guess
