Wondering whether the original comment was really relating to 'other cameras' rather than Canon, specifically. Whilst they will all do the job quite satisfactorily the S5 is meant to be able to handle those whites much better as well as the shadow detail.

So, it's not so much a case of you can't get good shots as having the tool to get better shots. In theory!
