This doesn't seem a logical step to me either. I know it will sell well below the RRP but it still doesn't seem necessary when there are still ample stocks of 400Ds out there selling for £350 new complete with kit lens and a 4Gb memory card.

This seems to be a response to the variety of price points that Nikon have for their consumer dSLRs but I can't see why anyone would buy the 1000D on the spec I am seeing here unless it could be bought for £100 less than the 400D and I have my doubts you'll see them at £250 with a lens!

Oh well, be interesting to see if it does take off. Not convinced it will.
