Ken if you have a pair of polarizing sunglasses go and get 'em. The lenses are rotated for maximum glare reduction before they're put in the frames. If you hold the specs out in front of you and rotate them through 90 degs or so while looking through them, you'll see glare visibly increasing. It's exactly the same principle as your filter except the specs lenses are in a fixed position in normal useage.
