I'd suggest trying your local library to see what they have, before buying anything.
Besides hunting around this site, you can get a lot of usefull information elsewhere on the web.
It's an odd thing, which may be peculiar to photography, but you only seem to find out the best books for your needs, when you don't actually need them any more!
