I've never used Firewire so that isn't an issue for me, but you're right about the price - Apple don't seem to have heard about the recession.
The consensus seems to be that (Firewire aside) the new version is a lot better in terms of graphics performance. the touchpad is good and the build quality is superb, but it's overpriced.
Perhaps they will be cheaper after Christmas.
