Well I took the plunge and got a Kenko Pro 300 1.4 converter so I thought I would post a couple of shots uncropped and then tight cropped to give an Idea what you get with them. My local reserve has lots of birds but mostly at a distance hence the reason for getting a converter. But to be honest no focal length is ever enough. Not razor sharp when cropped hard but certainly sharp enough for record shots

First one is a Green plover, Lapwing, or Peewit, call it what you will.
The second bird is an Avocet
