here fairly mixed opinions but I never really trust user review sites. Some try to compare against L glass and other try to justify their decision.
Also consider the canon 28-105mm F3.5/4.5. It's slightly more expensive but very nice results.
Tamron 28-80 and tokina 28-70 F2.8 also seem to review well, although a little shorter.
