I found the SB700 was great and just left my 35mm f1.8.
It was the best glass i had and made the camera light as i was a guest too.

I took the 70-300mm but never attached it.

If you are indoors using the flash remember to put the colour filters on as the bright white flash and the incandescent background
causes a WB nightmare.

When not using Flash. Auto ISO was my friend. You can set the min shutter and the max ISO. Better a grainy pic than a blurred one.

This is all from a novice part time shooter view point.
