Quick story behind the Lion shot. At Voi Safari Lodge they placed a man made water hole at bottom of hill. You could walk down part open, part closed tunnel to a concrete Den which was approx 30 feet from water. One night at 02:00 heard crying of a buffallo & then guards shouting "Lion". I ventured out & down the 200 yds steps to the Den to see a pride of lions had pinned a buffallo down. It took them an hour to kill it !! I was down there with only 1 other tourist & 1 guard with a rifle. If you made a noise the lions would look straight at you....talk about bricking it. it was the most horrific yet enthralling thing I had ever seen.
Anyway suddenly 2 lionesses ran straight for the Den & jumped over the top ! The guard legged it up the stairs leaving us. This was the only way out / in & I thought it best to leg it also. To say I have never been so scared in my life is an understatement !! Made it back to room & missus thought I had seen a ghost
Next day found out the lions had chased off hyenas & the guard was concerned the Hyeneas may come into the den !!
