The poppy was recently voted the ‘County Flower’ for both Essex and Norfolk. The new counties’ wildflower emblem echoes East Anglia’s old description as ‘Poppy Land’. The Great Eastern Railway even had a ‘Poppy Line” which bought thousands of visitors from the surrounding villages to see the spectacle.
