Hi Dan,

Firstly I will admit to wasting far too much money on tripods by buying the wrong one

I do a fair bit of hiking and have found the Gitzo Basalt 1298 very comfortable to carry and sturdy enough to hold my gear (I aint got a Bigma though ).
