Dan, ordinarily I would say a 300mm prime will be better than a zoom but not in this case, stick to what you've got in my opinion.

The Tamron 300mm f5.6 manual focus lens is not great, I have used it and it is was not a good experience. The lens is very soft at wide end (f5.6) and you're going to struggle to get a lot of use if you have to use it at f11/16 most of the time.

The 300mm end of the lens you have got is very capable and you will not see an advantage with this particular prime lens. Save your money for something better.
