Re: Photo Sharing Categories

For what it's worth (probs not a lot!) I entirely agree with charlotte on this one, those are all big subjects so having one for each would be worthwhile.

Having said that I recognise there are technical limitations, we can't have a separate category for every popular genre as there just isn't space. The total pics for these three is only the same as Portraits on their own so I woner whether abstract and still life should be one and urban another. I personally think macro should have its own group as it is one of the most popular genres for enthusiasts and we see thread after thread of people talking about macro lenses and so forth.

The thing is, macro often fits into the abstract category but by no means always. As an example: in the macro photography monthly comp, the fork prongs would definitely sit happily in the abstract category but the winning shot of the leaf would not.

I note that Sport is a much less used category than any other. It is mostly motor sport which is no real surprise.

I think the PIMP that photo category is getting used less and less simply because it is becoming more and more common to see pictures pimped in the main threads. I would hate to lose this thread though as it allows for radical pimping rather than simply 'improvements on a theme' type stuff in the threads.

Thanks for bringing this one up charlotte. Definite scope for some thought methinks.

Cheers,
Rob
