Fireworks Bloom

I've been studying my past photo work and going through frame by frame for interesting things... I blew up this photo to 100% and saw the streaks coming off the purple light streaks..

So often people post the overall bloom of a firework, and rarely focus on just the inside at 100% resolution..

I am fascinated by how the purple flames are 'dripping' fire while the greenish blue are solid streaks.. Must be something in the coloring between the two that causes it in the purple..

Re: Fireworks Bloom

I looked at previous year's taken with my D200. They didn't resolve enough data or have enough 'negative' to zoom in this much. To the D200 it was just a bit fuzzy underneath the purple streaks of those years's. Consistently with the D800 I found this to be the case..

Re: Fireworks Bloom

You make a good point that you usually only see the whole effect Loyd. I suspect that the reason that some of the trails are 'dripping' is due to the way that the firework is made and the component that gives the purple colour also have other chemicals packed with them that give that effect.

Your take works well whatever the reason though

Thanks. I've been thinking about getting a print of this to hang in the Hall of Loyd. (My little home photo print gallery)

Re: Fireworks Bloom

Fireworks are packed with different metals that have different colours, burn times and disintegration characteristics. This is likely potassium (Kalium) giving the purple colour, that spits as it burns, giving the effect you've captured.

Nice to watch but unless you've got the perfectly safe and dry storage conditions, can easily self ignite. Same element class as Lithium - keep batteries away from water !
