A while back it was suggested to allow our members to upload and share Photoshop Actions, scripts and brushes but the forums only support 'in thread' attachments and for the site management there were a few issues connected with that. We did like the idea however and thought that something should be put in place to accommodate this function.

Since then we have looked at many options and later today we will be opening our ‘download’ section to registered members. The Crew have already added a few Photoshop actions, some of which were previously submitted by our members and some which were not. The main benefit is that you as members can now submit and upload your own actions and scripts etc to share with others and find everything in one easy to navigate and use section.

As well as downloads for Photoshop we have expanded the sections to have categories for different programs and useful utilities. The Crew have begun to populate the sections with programs and utilities that we ourselves use, or other useful stuff that has been recommended on the forums previously. Where copyright is involved the download will link you to the original files from the company that wrote or own the rights to the program but there is an overview of all submissions onsite to allow you to make informed choices before going off to download.

Restrictions.

To prevent possible abuse we have limited all users to 10 download/uploads per day, this should not prevent anyone from obtaining the files if you use it sensibly and will have no effect on you viewing the contents of the download section even if you should reach your daily limit. We may adjust/alter the restrictions as time goes on subject to server loads created.

Going forward…

We have enabled uploads for members and encourage you to add your own useful files to the Photoshop section. Once you upload a file, it is automatically placed into moderation until a Crew member has checked out the file. As soon as it is authorised the files will appear in the download section. While we will not guarantee the safety of the files (their use will be entirely at your own risk) this will at least allow us to check out the submissions prior to them being widely available. Please provide instructions about your submission, which version(s) of Photoshop they will work with, any special instructions on installation or use and if you want to, you may also include screen shots via the use of [img] tags.

For other files or links that you would like to see included please PM one of the Pixalo Crew. Include all the relevant information and a link to the software/files. If suitable we will ensure that they are added at the earliest opportunity under your account name.

With your help we hope to make this into an invaluable FREE resource for all Pixalo members.

The constant improvements to the site cetainly shows the commitment of the Crew.

In the past, the Crew has always said that the site is only as good as it is because of the members. I beg to differ. This site is as good as it is because of the input of both the members AND the Crew.

As I said before, If Carlsburg did web-sites, theirs would probably be the second best in the world!

Question:

As the Download Section revolves mainly around CS - as most members are lucky enough to have this software - can the CS actions be used and/or converted to be used with other imaging programmes? I'm on Serif PhotoPlus11. (Got PSP as well, but only v.7, I opted to try PhotoPlus instead of upgrading PSP, + I quite like it.)

(As I don't do an awful lot of manipulation, I can't justify paying £500 odd for CS3, I'd rather spend the money on lenses + kit ... maybe later tho')

The download section won't just cater for PS users, the Pixalo Crew has just added a few of our favourite downloads to get thing's going, but new categories can and will be added for the various additions submitted by the members so we can build a full and varied resource.
