Pixalo is moving

Pixalo has grown in both size and it’s use of resources over the last 12 months and we have reached the point where we need to increase the power of the server that we are using to continue to sustain our growth.

As we have to move servers, we took this opportunity to review our traffic’s originating locations and have decided to move to a different data center as well. We have chosen a new host in a central location for the majority of our traffic, that and the increased server power, should also reduce site access times for the majority of our European users.

Unfortunately this move cannot be done without some downtime. Our planned change over will be on either Monday or Tuesday of the coming week and from our point of view should be completed in under an hour.

We will have to close all of Pixalo down, do a full backup from our current hosts and then restore that on the new host so that everything is up to date and no threads, posts, photos or members are lost. While that is happening we will redirect the domains so that they point to the new host and once they have propagated (anything from a couple of hours up to 48 depending on each individual ISP) you should find your way to the site on the new server.

To prevent any out of sync issues, Pixalo at this host will not be reopened after we close it for the change. So if you are finding you are still being directed to the closed site you’ll have to play a waiting game. The actual amount of downtime that each person will experience is dependant on your own personal Internet Service Providers though. If your ISP’s update/refresh and flush their records at regular intervals, as soon as this is done, they will have the correct information and you will be directed to the site at the new hosts. If not, then you will remain directed to the site that you are viewing now which will be closed. There is nothing we can do to speed this up and you’ll really have to just be patient until the updates occur.

Whilst not ideal, it is the best way for us to not lose any threads/posts/members/photos or reviews etc and ensure that the site is open as quick as possible for those whose ISP’s are performing as they should.

As of writing this we have not yet set the exact time/date other than it will be early next week. We did want to give you as much notice as possible though. I will update this thread with more information as we have it and do our best to keep you informed.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause and are doing our best to minimise the disruption.

Finally, Pixalo does have a some great news for every member…you’ll have to wait until we are up and running on the new server to find out what, but it should be worth the wait!

Thanks for everyone's understanding.

If all goes to plan we will be doing the move overnight today. We will probably close everything down late tonight and hopefully by the morning be open again on the new server. Since all you nice folk will be in bed during the changeover, the disruption should be minimised that way

What about the unlucky few of us that just HAVE TO check Pixalo when coming home from the night shift??

No no, just kidding. Hope the move goes just as planned and I wake up to Pixalo again in the morning

Everything is now live again and the majority of the site should be usable.

There are still some small issues remaining that we need to sort out. We will continue to work on these throughout the day but don't foresee them having any major effect on your time here.
